Jersey City Newborn Photographer

I have gotten the pleasure of photographing this wonderful family, not once, not twice, but 3 times in the past couple of years. Having had the honor to get to know them and their families as I photographed their wedding in Hoboken a few years ago, I was so excited when I got the email that they were pregnant and wanted me to capture both their maternity and newborn photos a couple of months later. For me, it’s not just fun for me that I get to catch up with old clients, but I truly am beyond humbled that I feel as if I’m a part of the family, getting a chance to get up close and intimate during their most special moments with them.

So I arrived to Katie and Eric’s beautiful and tranquil Jersey City apartment, and felt a complete sense of zen as I walked in – not the usual craziness of first time parents – just taking it a step at a time, enjoying the laughs, goo goo gaga-ing and wide eyed at every little movement this new little person was making. As a mom of 2 now, I see things so differently, and it’s really just so interesting to me how differently everyone undertakes their new roles as parents. I felt like a silent observer shielded by my lens.

One of the most special moments for me to photograph also, was an idea that Katie and I came up with together, mirroring her maternity portraits in the bath tub, but this time, trying something a little less staged, and more honest. There was no need for flowers or milk baths or posing, because this time… we had real moments and real connections to concentrate on – being nude, in a vulnerable state together, skin to skin, with every imperfection, every scar visible, that makes it part of their story. I love that this was their very first time in the tub together and we got to document that, and I love that we even found a new way for them to get to spend time together, in the tranquility of the water, especially since Katie had a bit of a more difficult delivery. So this, to me, felt reminiscent of what it would have been like had they had that time together, skin to skin, after her delivery.

And now I present to you, world, little Mr. Dean Fitzgerald Mason… the cutest, and calmest baby around, and his proud parents…
