First Birthday Photos
First Birthday Photos // I’ve known this sweet family since they got engaged, and then went on to photograph their wedding at Jack’s Barn. Then a few years later when they had their son and contacted me to join them in their home to document a day in their life, I was beyond thrilled. So… to say that I love this family as if they were my own, no need to mention I now consider them friends, is an understatement.
Last April, I got to capture baby W’s first birthday photos at Natirar Park in Gladstone, NJ. We spent an afternoon enjoying W’s adorable faces and piercing blue eyes, some some cute moments with him and their dog Maddy, and a few great moments as he is learning to walk (and before he really takes off!)
What I love about first birthday photos and milestone sessions is that we get to encapsulate in just a few pictures what it felt like to be that age – because we so often forget. And not only for the children themselves, but as parents, we also go through stages ourselves. I know that for myself, as a mom, if I didn’t have pictures to document these special milestones, like learning how to walk, or my seeing my face as a first year parent, I would absolutely forget what it was like – because life happens, kids/events/pets come and go, and we are so quick to move onto the next thing in our lives and trying to enjoy the present that these moments fly past us, when next thing you know, they go from learning how to walk to walking down the aisle themselves.
For this reason, I am so glad to have a relationship with my clients where we can be open and honest with each other, and where they can trust me with documenting these moments that really have no “do-overs” in life…
And so I leave you with these little glimpses into what Year One looks like…
