Lounsbury House Wedding
In the quaint Connecticut town of Ridgefield, lies the adorable Lounsbury House Wedding venue where Lisa and Andrew would be getting married later that afternoon. The forecast was looking up, beautiful sunshine outside, and no rain in site for at least the next few hours, so said my various weather apps, and everyone’s moods were calm and collected as they got ready for their outdoor ceremony set up by the garden. Well, you can imagine my disbelief as I stood outside, only an hour later, waiting for the bride to walk down the aisle, and dark grey clouds looming overhead, as they moved closer and closer to us, about to break at any second. The guests, nervously fidgeting, and looking around for the nearest umbrella, were probably thinking the same thing. “I have never photographed a wedding outside in the rain,” I thought. Thoughts of excitement at how these images could look with the rain coming down, combined with nervousness (“will my equipment survive this?”) rushed into my head, and I went full on warrior mode as the drops started becoming thicker and thicker. By this point we were full into the ceremony vows and ring exchange, about to break the glass, and the audience had since found shelter under the gazebos and a few umbrellas scattered throughout. I, on the other hand, was soaking wet, working with 1 camera, along with Danilo (my second photographer) both nervous and thrilled at the same time at what a cool experience this actually would be, looking back!
I’m sure not many couples get to look back on their wedding and say, we said our vows, exchanged rings, and broke the glass in the pouring rain, and it was amazing!
Andrew and Lisa’s outlook on the day was definitely one to admire! They did not let the rain get them down, they just embraced it and let it happen, to add more excitement to their day! The funny part is, we were getting ready for indoor portraits during the cocktail hour, when all of a sudden, in true Connecticut style (so I’m told), the beautiful sun came out and we got to do our amazing set of portraits outdoors in the beautiful light!
After the burst of a rain storm, the rest of the night was a breeze – speeches filled with laughs and tears, dancing to the beat of the band, and an intimate dinner style in the outer rooms of the house.
I had so much fun documenting the ups and downs of Andrew + Lisa’s day! … And I can now say I’ll definitely be prepared to handle another rainy wedding day! Come at me, rain!
