Tessa + Curt | American Church | Paris, France

OK so this blog post is going to be a bit longer than usual, well, because it’s special and dear to my heart, both because of the location of the actual wedding itself, being a destination wedding in Paris, and the circumstances involved around it… and the fact that it was my last hurrah of the year to close out wedding season… and my last wedding before I take a little break to welcome and our new baby into the world.. so I hope you enjoy this little story, because it’s certainly an entertaining one I think!

I will preface by saying this was supposed to be a New Year’s wedding in Pennsylvania, but a few months after the wedding was booked, the bride called me with a change of plans. Since Paris was so engrained in her heart and near and dear to her family and her experiences, they called the whole wedding off and moved a smaller, more intimate version to Paris – man that takes guts! but most importantly heart and conviction! First, I just loved the fact that they followed their hearts and their instincts to celebrate their union with those important to them in a place that means so much… and second, the humbling thought that they wanted to take me along with them on this journey to document it… and in a place that is and was special to me as well throughout high school.

Now fast forward a month – everything happened so quickly, and while plans were happening on one side, well plans happened a little bit sooner than expected on the other side, and turns out I’d be 33 weeks pregnant (a week before the cut off date to travel), by the time the wedding was going to happen! But that didn’t stop me from gathering all of my resources, lining up an amazing photographer in France who I’ve been enjoying his work for some time now, Fred Courtois, and making sure I was backed up in case of emergency, and Tessa and Curt were unphased to which they replied – “hey if you think you can make it, we’d love to have you!”

Now fast forward another few months, just 2 months prior to the wedding, and the bride emails me to tell me her leg’s been run over by a car and she’s been in multiple surgeries and may not be able to walk well for her wedding… but that it’s still on! full force, and ready with conviction… just maybe with a few hicups and a couple of crutches… so now we’ve got a couple of factors affecting this wedding but it would not stop us, no no no…

Doctors did not predict that Tessa would even be able to walk, and friends of mine thought I was crazy for traveling abroad and shooting a wedding so late in pregnancy, but yet, here we were, on December 30… a freezing cold, but amazingly sunny, winter day… in Paris… surrounded by Tessa + Curt’s amazing and supportive family and friends… walking around and enjoying the beautiful sights of Paris and wondering how we all made it here!

So, you see folks, this was a whirlwind of a story to tell, entertaining to say the least leading up to the wedding, with stories to tell from the day of as well (like getting lost around Les Halles and finding their family at a bar drinking “vin chaud”… getting kicked out of St Eustache cathedral for trying to sneak in some photos… trying to round up 6 ubers in Paris to drive us around… and many more)… but I wouldn’t have had it any other way as my last wedding of the year, and my last wedding before a few months of maternity leave as I wait patiently for this baby to pop out as we speak…

I can’t thank Tessa + Curt enough for trusting in me to capture this destination wedding journey for them across the ocean… and also to Fred for supporting me and allowing me to keep calm knowing that if anything happened he had my back with his wonderful artistry, who’s images you’ll find trickled between mine as well…

Enjoy the journey… and Happy New Year to all!… <3
